purchased : more plants!

purples and greens, oh my!

purples and greens, oh my!

we went on a plant purchasing spree this past weekend at armstrong garden center! as you can see above, we're really digging deep greens and purples (wearing purple pants and green sandals was entirely a coincidence)! a couple succulents got a new pot (below), one plant is going indoors (only our second indoor plant!). the rest are divided between the front yard and the back concrete jungle. we're still working on placement, so very little is properly planted or potted yet, but we're excited at more greenery!

a painted attic entry.

so when we had central heat and air put in last summer, they had to make a new attic entry for us (the original one was barely small enough for me to squeeze through, and definitely not up to code). it's big and convenient and it's been great to have. however, it wasn't painted as you can see above, and just a lovely natural shade of brown.

we bought a small can of white primer almost immediately to paint it, but like many other things, it sort of just sat there, sad and forgotten. but i had a free afternoon and decided to just DO IT. so i did! the frame itself i had to paint standing on the ladder, looking up. my neck hurts today. and a sponge brush may have detached and hit several parts of me on its way down.. so i may or may not have paint splotches on my legs and some of my clothes... but it's done! it's not quite the same white as everything around it, but you wouldn't notice unless you look really closely and are OCD like me. and you definitely won't be able to tell in a cruddy phone picture. doesn't it look so much better?

next up - decided on a paint color to finally paint the hallway walls.. there are so many test swatches on the wall right now...

a place for storage : the basement!

hello! it's been forever, and i apologize. things have just been very crazy over the last couple of months. james has been working lots of overtime wrapping up his department on how to train your dragon 2, i've gotten busy at work with the film i'm on starting production, i had an unexpected trip back to taiwan for a family matter, and the house has suffered for it. we really haven't done anything to it in the past few months, but we have big plans and hope to do a lot this spring and summer!

one thing that we started, is to move some items out of the house and into the basement! we bought a couple metal shelving units from home depot and got them set up. only one has been filled so far, but if you saw the state of our office and guest bedroom, well, you'd realize that one shelf left is no where near enough. but, every little bit certainly does help!

these were about $100 each, and a cinch to put together - though i do recommend two people just because it's size can be a bit unwieldy at times. but they're really sturdy and we're so glad we got them!
